In 2017, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) created a separate column for age 16 years on its immunization schedule, thus identifying the 16-year-old vaccination visit as a standard of care and highlighting the need to improve immunization rates for adolescent vaccines.

The Vaccine Handbook: A Practical Guide for Clinicians (The Purple Book) contains information on licensed vaccines, contingencies, how to address concerns, background on policy, office logistics, billing and more. There is also a free App for The Vaccine Guide available at the App store.

Additionally, the Adolescent Immunization Initiative (AII) has created a new fact sheet titled The Importance and Potential of the 16-Year-Old Immunization Visitwith helpful tips and resources for family physicians.
