Patients with limited English proficiency can often feel frustrated and distrustful. Language barriers also raise the risk for an adverse event. The Department of Health and Human Services has outlined the requirements to ensure these persons have access to language services, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has provided a guide to improve patient safety for patients with limited English proficiency.
